A question we often get is "Why we do what we do"

Cannabis Legal Reform

At 2nd40 to 420 The Farm, growing cannabis is about advocacy and healing. We grow to push back against outdated stigma and to champion cannabis as a tool for healing and community. We grow for veterans, who deserve natural relief for PTSD and chronic pain. We grow for mental health, honoring those we’ve lost and supporting those still struggling. We grow to continue the legacy of our farm family, who believed in homegrown medicine and community land. Every seed we plant is a stand for cannabis legal reform, proof that responsible, compassionate cultivation can bring people together, heal wounds, and create opportunities. For us, farming cannabis is about growing a future of fairness, wellness, and freedom.

Our Story

In 2022, just days before our groundbreaking Fly High 420 Fest, the City of Appomattox attempted to shut us down despite our permits being fully approved. Some local neighbors were uncomfortable with cannabis and tried to silence what we were building. Rather than give up, we adapted and worked with local authorities to stay in business. First we operated under a campground permit, and now continuing as a private membership club to stay compliant, protect our community, and keep our mission alive. We continue to adapt and overcome.

What started as a fight to keep our gates open has grown into a movement. Today, we gather to celebrate the healing power of cannabis, share the science of growing, the strength of nature, and the love of a farm family that refuses to quit. This is our story and we invite you to be a part of it.

ALS Awareness

Our Farm Family is deeply connected to the fight against ALS through our brother, Kevin Ward, who lives with this challenging disease. ALS is a relentless condition that slowly takes away strength and mobility, but it cannot take away love, community, or spirit.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), often known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a devastating condition that affects the nerves and muscles, leading to progressive loss of mobility and independence. While there is no cure, many in the ALS community have found that cannabis provides meaningful relief. Cannabis can ease symptoms such as muscle spasticity, pain, sleep disturbances, and appetite loss. Beyond symptom management, cannabis offers a natural alternative to heavy pharmaceuticals, aligning with our belief in plants over pills.

Mental Health

In loving honor of Alex Johnson

In 2022, we lost our dear friend and Farm Family member Alex Johnson, who took his own life. Alex was a dreamer, a builder, and a believer in what this land could become. He envisioned the expansion of the Farm and poured his energy into making a space for connection, healing, and joy.

Alex leaves behind his daughter Athena and our Farm Daughter Brooklyn, whose laughter and light continue to remind us why we carry on. Every gathering, every song by the fire, every seed we plant is a way of honoring Alex’s spirit and celebrating his life. We know he is still with us guiding from the other side.

Thank you to our USA Veterans

We also grow for our veterans! To provide natural relief for PTSD, pain, and the invisible wounds of service, offering a path of healing through community and cannabis.
